Product Description

Manufacturer's Notes: Our peated expression takes its name from the highest point in Caithness, a brooding peak largely surrounded by open moors and wetlands. All around Morven lie peat deposits dating back over 10,000 years, from which peat was harvested to fuel the original Wolfburn Distillery.

Wolfburn's motif depicts a creature found in both Scots and Norse mythology. According to ancient lore, the sea-wolf "did liveth both on sea and land." Walking on water is not its only gift: the sea-wolf also brings good luck to all these fortunate enough to see it.

From the far North situated on Scotland's ruggest north coast, Wolfburn Distillery was first established in 1821, rapidly becoming the largest distillery in Caithness. Named after its water source ('burn' being the Scottish words for stream), Wolfburn is the most northerly whisky distillery on the Scottish mainland, and our mater craftsmen fashion their wihsky the same way it was always made: by hand, using only the finest ingredients, and without haste.

Smoky and evocative, this lightly peated whisky is made from malted barley infused with smoke furing the drying process. The flavour imparted by the smoke is a reflection of Wolfburn's history -- the original 19th Century distillery was largely fired by peat. Gentle distillation is followed by maturation in our purpose-built warehouses. The result is a beautifully smooth and rounded whisky.

Smooth and warming... "Initially smoky with hints of fruit and fresh sea air. On the palate floral notes are augmented by hints of cereal, followed by vanilla and light spices. The residual tang of peat smoke gives a lingering finish. This is a great whisky to enjoy with friends and family."
