One Glacial Ice-Field
A Journey Into The Arctic Chill

We Are Oceans

We are Talisker, Made by the Sea

Roaring waves and currents flow through our veins. Our pulse matches the rythms of the ocean.

For several years, Talisker has sought the uncharted wilderness to inspire unrepeatable whiskies that awaken the elements, which forged our spirit. Our mission at heart: to release a rare and trailblazing collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies that resound with the spirit of nature's untamed power. An inaugural journey included cask staves that charted the routes of The Atlantic Challenge on a single-handed sailboat, and in a secong expression cask staves travelled aboard the mission ship on an expedition to South Africa's great undersea kelp forests, to help preserve their unique environment.

Our third adventure explores a rigid realm... in which climate change is dramatically impacting the seas we seek to help protect. Every one of us is affected. Through our exposure we reveal the interconnected spirit of our ocean and our planet.

We are Talisker, One with the Ocean.

The Roar of the Glaciers

When one ice floe falls from a glacier, the roar is heard across landscapes.

In the last expression of this adventurous series, we ventures to the glacial regions of the Northern Hemisphere, a land of indispensible, frozen beauty, to shine a light on this transforming environment.

A daring mission took form: casks stimulated by the frozen crucible of ice at the glacial edge, used to finish a Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Our quest took us to the vast white expanse of the Marriott Basin in British Columbia, Canada. Here we joined forces again with kindred wild spirits Parley fot the Oceans -- a global environmental organisation and network of creatives, scientists and innovators, fiercely dedicates to protecring the world's oceans.

To captain us across vast ice caps and deep into otherworldly azure ice caves, Dr. Alison Criscitiello, a pioneering glacier scientist, was by our side.

The unfolding story of the ice lay before us.

Ice Fractured Character

Talisker distillery's first-ever release of a 45-year old Single Malt Scotch Whiskey, the pinnacle of this remarkable series, reveals a precious liquid finished in casks that undertook the boldest elemental adventure of all.

For 96 hours, heavily charred American Oak casks were placed on the frozen land, exposed to the raw, biting Arctic wind. Through howling blows and crunching, frost-laden carpets of snow, our cask wood withstood sub-zero temperatures. Re-invigorated by the extremes, new depths were revealed within its grain, the oak's surface cracking with layered texture.

Our rare whisky, nearly half a century old, was finally laid to rest in these ice-fractured casks, emerging as a Single Malt that unearths a new world of Talisker: a whisky of uncharted richness and complexity.

Made By The Sea. Activated by ice.

Whisky Notes

After weathering many winters, this golden liquid was finally finished is casks first laid bare to the elements in a glacial landscape.

Full-bodied and vibrant, it has a powerful maritime and peppery character, with elemental flavour notes carefully shaped by age. Rested in ice-fractured oak, it seems to glow with a new intensity.

Whisky Notes

Appearance: Glowing amber. Exceptional beading.

Nose: Rich, dry and mellow overall, with a light peppery prickle at first. Clear maritime top notes dpeak of tide-line seaweed, sand dunes, iodine; their mineral companions suggest slaked lime and salt crystals. Behind them a faint dried-fruit complex with hints of fig, sultana, or prune lends body and richness. Light smoke threads the background, touched by aromatic sandalwood. A drop of water tends to close the aromas yet adds richness to the fruity sweetness, with notes of fruit salad coming through.

Body: Full, rich.

Finish: Very long, with a trace of candlewax in a glorious chili pepper effect that grows and glows in the aftertaste. Saltier at reduced strength and slightly less peppery, now with faint scented smoke in the aftertaste.

A Collective Vision

The planet's future is connected to the fate of the oceans. United by the desire to help protect our seas, we have formed a partnership with Parley fot the Oceans. Our joint mission aims to preserve and protect 100 million square metres of sea forest arounnd the world by 2023.

Kelp sea forests, known as the lungs of the ocean, capture carbon dioxide and provide a habitat and nourishment for marine life. However, like glaciers they are also threatened by rising global temperatures. The health of all our planet's ecosystems are intertwined, from the ice caps of Canada to the kelp forests that surround our home on Skye.

We all have a role to play -- to restore, preserve and protect our planet for future generations. And we can make change happen.
