Product Description

Manufacturer's Notes: TOKI means "time" in Japanese. It's a concept rich in meaning the world over, but particularly in Japan, were respect for tradition and reinvention sparks a powerful creative energy. Inspired by that interplay, TOKI brings together old and new -- the House of Suntory's proud heritage and its innovative spirit.

This year, to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding house of Japanese whisky, we pay tribute to our design approach that brings "Monozukuri" craftsmanship to life and grounds it as part of Japanese culture. This same relentless pursuit for quality, ingenuity and expressiveness, has inspired the design of these centennial limited editions.

The limited edition packaging features Toki's main visual which brings the world of Old meets New Japan. Inspired by Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing pottery yb creatively mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or latinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of the object, rather than something to disguise, embracing appreciation of beauty in the passage of time. For Toki, the art of Kintsugi illustrates the respect and tradition for our whisky making, infused with modern day culture have reinvigorated the innovative whisky.

Combining calligraphy with abstraction, Tansetu Ogino's most recent piece is representative of the Toki Kanji alongside a visual expression of the blend through vibrant and dynamic brushstrokes. The work speals to the uplifting, versatile experience of the Toki liquid and the concept of "tradition reivented" that is embedded in the brand's core principle.

Artist bio: Artist Tansetsu Ogino was born in Tanba, Hyogo, in 1939. After graduating from Namba Designer School in 1964, specializing in graphic design, he shifted to the "new style" of calligraphy called "zan ei shodo." Having received accolades at the Calligraphy Exhibit in the late 1970s, he has participated in both solo and group exhibitions over 10 times. A great friend of Keizo Saji, the second master blender of Suntory Whisky, Tansetsu Ogino has written the Sumimoji Kanji of Suntory Whisky products.
