Manufacturer's Notes:
History Worth Repeating.
When Bill Samuels, Sr., burned his family's 170-year-old family whisky recipe in 1953, it wasn't by accident. Fed up with the hot, harsh, "blow your ears off" whiskey his family (and virtually every other distiller) had been making for years, he was determined to create a bourbon that wouldn't burn on the way down and was consistently delicious. In doing so, he'd reinvent bourbon itself.
Using locally grown red winter wheat rather than rye and aging his whiskey to taste - not time - Bill, Sr., eventually found the full-flavored, remarkably smooth taste he was after. Dubbed Maker's Mark by his wife, Margie, and hand-dripped in its signature red wax, this revolutionary bourbon would represent the entirety of the Samuels family production for the next 50 years.
That changed when their son, Bill Samiels, Jr., was inspired to leave a mark of his own. With some trial and error and much perseverance, Maker's 46 was born. Thanks to finishing in barrels specially modified with toasted French oak staves like the ones below, Maker's 46 Delivers bigger, bolder flavors with the drinkability you's expect from Maker's Mark.
