"At Highland Park, we pride ourselves on the COMPLEX BALANCE of our whisky -- a balance we consistently achieve by carefully hand selecting casks we know will marry well. For this 21 YEAR OLD, I brought together three different casks types -- first-fill sherry seasoned European oak hogsheads, ex-bourbon barrels and refill butts -- to creat a whisky that s both SATISFYINGLY RICH AND INTRIGUINGLY COMPLEX.

Slow maturation in our island warehouses allows the rich flavours of the first-fill casks to come vibrantly to the fore -- GINGER AND SPICES from the first-fill European hogsheads, and SWEET CITRUS AND CEDAR from the ex-bourbon barrels. The refill casks balance the influence of oak from the first-fill casks and deliver a layer of complexity, while bottling the whisky at its marrying strength of 46% ensures a rich and full-bodied finish. 

Highland Park 21 YEAR OLD displays the FINE MATURITY OF CHARACTER that befits a whisky of this age and, in bringing together three such distinctive cask types, the result is a single malt Scotch whisky that delivers A PERFECT HARMONY OF SPICE AND FRUIT ON A WAVE OF AROMATIC SMOKE -- the hallmark of Orkney's unique heather part.

 - Crafted from 3 first-fill sherry seasoned oak hogsheads, 5 ex-bourbon barrels and 6 refill butts, laid down in the year 2000 and earlier years and hand selected by Gordon Motion, our Master Whisky Maker
 - Laid down and matured safely within the 19 dunnage and 4 racking warehouses at our distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney
 - Naturally deep golden, its colour driven entirely by our casks, without additives

Tasting Notes

Bottled at its marrying strength of 46% ABV, this is a rich and complex 21 YEAR OLD single malt Scotch whisky that opens with aromas of espresso coffee, dark chocolate, marmalade on toast and crushed coriander seeds. Elegantly harmonised notes of spiced gingerbread, oranges studded with cloves and aromatic cedar wood flow, bound in a sweet cloud of heather-infused peat smoke. A haze of smoky citrus spice lingers. This whisky's deep golden hues are driven entirely naturally by the casks it matured in, without additives.
