Manufacturer's Notes: In 1870 having experimented with anise plants from numerous Italian provinces, Silvio Meletti determined that the best quality of anise was cultivated in the clay soils of Ascoli Piceno, situated on the Adriatic Coast directly east of Rome. Here Silvio studied different styles of distillation and found that by using a special alembic still he could create a very slow evaporation rate which resulted in an intensely flavored and particularly aromatic anisette.

In 1879 Silvio Meletti's efforts were rewarded; King Umberto I awarded him permission to use the royala coat of arms on his label. Today Meletti Anisette is the largest selling anisette in Italy. The present Silvio Meletti attributes this success to the unique aging of his anisette which raises the alcohol to a proof of 68', Silvio explains that it is only at this level that anisette can develop the aromatic flavor of anise rather than tasting simply of alcohol.
